5 Things

The Great Ed Batista has tagged me, and I will follow his lead anywhere. Thus, I am charged with sharing five things you may not know about me.

  1. My given name was Deborah (Debbie) Sue, because "I wasn't pretty enough to be named Jennifer." (Now that I know Jen Lemen, this all makes perfect sense to me at last.) At age 23, I took matters into my own hands. Today, seven of my closest friends have names of their own invention; one is even a recovering Debbie. Recently, I met a Sage whose name was previously Jennifer. Seems that even the pretty girls are doing it...
  2. I do not now, nor have I ever, liked chocolate.
  3. If something scares me a lot, I usually make myself do it. For example, in college, I decided to challenge my body image issues by becoming a nude model for a life drawing class. I modeled for almost two years, until the charge diffused and standing naked before strangers became boring.
  4. My brain seems to retain nothing so faithfully as 80s rock anthems, which circulate on "random" and blurt out at inopportune times and places. (I want to know what love is. I want you to show me...)
  5. My inner GPS can simply not make sense of the literal. Road signs do not compute. Maps are a kind of hieroglyphics. Distance and destination are my blindfolds, time my dance partner. I follow; I am led; eventually, I arrive.

Pamela, Christina, Drew, Kristin and Jen, there is nothing I would like to know more than the five things you have yet to reveal to your public! Tag: y'all are it!

A beautiful set of disclosures, Sage. I knew #1 and #5. I didn't know #3, but both the charge and its diffusion seem somehow fitting. And I'm stunned to learn that the '80s made such a deep musical impression on you.

Ed

Beautiful Sage. If I tell you my five, can I have your chocolate?
Tom

What fun reading!

My mother, now 80, also doesn't like chocolate and never has. I am bringing her a different kind of chocolate in March because I still won't believe it and because I still pray the Serenity Prayer with little fire.

OMG.

1. You are SO SAGE and SO NOT Debbie Sue. :)

2. I promise not to hold the fact that you do not like chocolate against you. :)

3. You are a Scorpio, all right. (Or did you change your birthdate too?)

4. Rock on, sister!

5. You snuck in some poetry! That is SO like you.

I've been tagged to reveal 5 things about myself that you don't know? Hmm. Okay how 'bout:
1. My grandma's family raised reindeer in northern Finland (or so Dad tells us)
2. When I was a kid, I played the role of the chocolate-stealing brat named Tootie in the play "Meet Me in St. Louis," which wasn't a stretch except the role was written to be a girl.
3. I also played Bombur, the fat hobbit in a local theatrical production (Waiting for Guffman, anyone?) of "The Hobbit."
4. I grew up eating bad fad food of the 70s like knox blox gelatin and "food sticks," the official snack of the astronauts.
5. When I was a pre-teen, I spent a lot of time digging holes in the corn field behind our grade school. I was too young to move out of Indiana, but I guess that didn't stop me from trying to escape.
