Literary Cottage seeks submissions for two new anthologies

Literary Cottage is currently seeking entries for two, exciting new anthologies to be published by Adams Media: Woodstock Revisited and My Dog Is My Hero. Please visit its website for full details. Following are brief project descriptions:

For Woodstock Revisited, we are seeking fifty true stories  written by people who attended the 1969 Woodstock Festival. This anthology will document the event itself, but will also provide a portrait of America as that tumultuous decade came to a close. Stories should be historical within the context of 1969, and yet unique to your experience. Stories must be TRUE, 850-1100 words, vivid, and substantive. Adams Media pays $100 and one copy of the book. Literary Cottage offers prizes of $100, $75, and $50 to top three stories respectively. For My Dog Is My Hero, the fourth book in Adams Media's Hero Series, we are seeking fifty 850-1100-word stories featuring a remarkable dog in your life. Yes, about dogs and only dogs, not cats, or other pets. Adams Media pays $100 per story (one per volume), plus a copy of the book, and Literary Cottage will also award three prizes $100, $75, and $50 for the top three stories respectively. I am giddy with delight about the birth of  Shiny Blue You: Stories to Change Our World, a new essay  collection from Queen of Wands Press. I'll be editing this anthology with Jen Lemen, one of the most soulful, powerful storytellers and community-builders of our time.

VoiceCatcher 3 seeks submissions from Portland women writers

If you are a woman writer living in the Portland, OR metropolitan area, I heartily encourage you to submit your work to VoiceCatcher for consideration!!

VoiceCatcher 3, an anthology of Portland Women's Writing, is now accepting submissions through March 31! VoiceCatcher's mission is: "...to publish an eclectic anthology of Portland-area women’s writing reflecting a diversity of voice and genre. Our intent is to provide readers with a selection of the highest quality new writing by Portland women, and to offer a publishing opportunity that respects, nurtures and promotes these local artists."

I had work published in VoiceCatcher last year and loved everything about my experience--so much so that I joined the editorial collective this year! Unlike any other literary publication I know of, VoiceCatcher provides a personalized editorial response to manuscripts not accepted for publication. Washington Prize for Poetry

In 2008, The Word Works will award a living American (citizen of the United States or Canada) poet $1,500 and book publication for a volume of original poetry in English. Submissions will be accepted between January 15 and March 1, 2008. Check out the submission guidelines.

Missouri Review contest deadline extended to October 5!

There's still time to enter the Missouri Review's 17th Annual Jeffrey E. Smith Editors' Prize in Fiction, Essay and Poetry. They'll be awarding over $9000 in prizes, along with publication in the magazine. While the postmark deadline is October 1, the online submission deadline has been extended through Friday, October 5. Tom Howard Poetry Contest closes this Sunday

The Tom Howard Poetry Contest will close at midnight this coming Sunday, September 30. Entries must be lodged on line or posted before midnight to qualify for this year's awards which total $3,500. All types and genres of verse will be accepted. Get full details. 

The Bear Deluxe calls for Flash Fiction

The Bear Deluxe is calling for Flash Fiction submissions for our special fall Fiction Issue. We challenge you to craft a fiction story no longer than 100 words. Drop the superlatives and fluff, submissions must be 100 words only. Keep in mind, the Bear Deluxe has a particular affinity for place-based and environmental writing.

The Fiction issue (#26) will be released mid November and will debut at The Portland¹s annual book festival, Wordstock.

HERO SERIES CALL FOR TRUE STORIES

Adams Media is publishing a new anthology series featuring uplifting true stories about the experiences and relationships that inspire and enrich our lives—namely those with our mothers, our fathers, and our teachers (also mother-figures, father-figures, and mentors). These slice-of-life stories will be written by people from all walks of life and provide unique personal insights into powerful universal truths, as well as honor the "everyday hero" in their lives. Each anthology in the series will be divided to highlight the variety of ways mothers, teachers, and fathers go beyond the call of duty to heroism. They are now seeking submissions for the following volume:

MY TEACHER IS MY HERO

For this collection, we seek original and compelling testaments to the deep connection between teachers and their students, particularly heartwarming and humorous tales about truly amazing teachers who have made a significant impact on your life, or your children's lives. We are seeking people of all ages and backgrounds to write a moving story in appreciation of the teachers who inspired, motivated, and educated them. A teacher could also be a mentor or workshop leader, someone with whom you have had a moving experience that enriched your life and illustrates why this particular teacher is heroic.

Submission Deadline: SEPTEMBER 5, 2007
